With some time off work, I have been putting together a few playlists for bicycle touring in the Fens. I love music, and always have, and so taking an MP3 player on this trip is a no brainer. When bicycle touring, music helps me through a tough day, gets me out of bed in the morning, and helps me to unwind. The slight problem for you, friendly reader, is that my musical tastes are not exactly everyone’s cup of tea! Don’t let that put you off though. There could be a gem or two listed below that you might like. Maybe. If you’re lucky.
Playlists for Bicycle Touring
Up and At ’em Playlists for Bicycle Touring
Sometimes, that sleeping bag seems just a little too warm and comfy in the morning, and getting up can be a real issue. Those miles don’t pedal themselves though, and so this playlist is designed to motivate me to get my arse out of bed.
L7 | “Mr. Integrity” – From their album ‘Bricks are Heavy’. Proving girl bands can kick butt with the best of them!
Dick Dale & The Del Tones | “Misirlou” – You can kind of body surf out of your sleeping bag to this tune if you try hard.
OMC | “How Bizarre” – Gotta love this song really. Perfect for putting clothes on to.
Len | “Steal My Sunshine” – A good make a cup of tea song!
Smashmouth | “Walking on the Sun” – With a cup of tea in hand, it’s time to stretch the legs outside if the weather’s good.
The Cult | “Rain” – Of course if the weather isn’t great, you probably want to skip the previous song and play this one instead!
Rage Against the Machine | “Renegades of Funk” – Time to funk it up, and start packing gear away.
Korn | “Blind” – And with the gear packed up, away I go! (Actually, it would be a miracle if I got up, packed away and on the road in the amount of time on this playlist!)
Uphill Playlists for Bicycle Touring
(I shouldn’t need this one too much cycling in the Fens, but I will also call it the headwind playlist!)
I actually enjoy cycling uphill when bicycle touring (there is probably something wrong with me!), but from time to time, a little music does make it all slightly easier. Headwinds I am not such a fan of though, and so this playlist is suitable for both situations. Turn it up!
Slayer | “Raining Blood” – Might as well get that aggression going with a Slayer classic. Come alon… Sing along folks!!
Slipknot | “Wait and Bleed” – It’s all getting very bloody on the playlist right now!
Mike Patton | “Juice Me” – This comes from the Crank 2 soundtrack, and in fact, cycling along to this entire soundtrack is guaranteed to get the adrenaline up!
Tomahawk | “God hates a Coward” – Why play just the one Mike Patton song? Genius video included below.
Nirvana | “Territorial Pissings” – Oh yeah, baby!
Megadeth | “Into the Lungs of Hell” – Guessed I am a Thrash metal fan yet?
Tiny Tim | “Living in the Sunlight” – Well, sooner or later the wind has to stop, or you reach the top of the hill right?
Chillaxing Playlists for Bicycle Touring
And then, when the day’s cycling is over, it’s time to relax. This is a nice selection of gentler songs for chilling to at the end of the night.
Janes Addiction | “Jane Says” – It’s impossible not to like this song.
Alice in Chains | “No Excuses” – Try and watch the MTV unplugged if you haven’t already.
The Doors | “Moonlight Drive” – A couple of drinks and a clear, star filled night. Perfect.
Fur Patrol | “Lydia” – Massively underrated Kiwi band.
Blind Melon | “No Rain” – I’m in danger of turning into a hippy here if I am not careful.
The Prodigy | “Stand Up” – had to be a Prodigy song somewhere. bet you weren’t expecting this one though.
Stone Roses | “I am the Resurrection” – And that’s all folks. Night night!
This is the part where you tell me which songs I should have included in my playlists for bicycle touring- Please feel free to comment!
