Through the cunning use of bank holidays, I have managed to get almost three weeks off from work this month. A pedal around East Anglia seems just the thing to do during some of that time! It will be a great chance to test some gear out, and to focus my mind on the around the world cycling tour I begin next year. I’m really looking forwards to it, as during all my years of bicycle touring, I haven’t spent that much time touring my own country.

This cycling quote is one of my favourites, and will soon be applied to my own country!
Somewhat uncharacteristically though, I haven’t planned this months in advance. So, I basically have two weeks to sort out a route, and buy gear that I don’t already own.
You might be thinking, that someone who is planning to cycle around the world would already have all the gear they need. Nah. At the time of writing this, I am still basic items such as a tent and sleeping bag missing! Still, the internet was invented for ordering things online from the comfort of your own home, and so these items should soon be on their way to me, fingers crossed.
A Pedal Around East Anglia – Rough Route
Problem number two, is sorting out a route. I have a feeling that this is something that will be refined during the time leading up to my pedal around East Anglia, but I do have a general outline. Starting and ending in my home town of Northampton, I will do a clockwise circle around the region. Using quieter roads and specific cycle routes where possible, I will also try to include major landmarks and historical sites along the way. Added to an ever growing list are Grimes Graves, the Peddars Way, Hunstanton (my parents have a holiday caravan there), and perhaps Cambridge. I’d love to hear other suggestions of places to visit for my pedal around East Anglia!
So, with just a couple of weeks to get things sorted out, I had better get to it! I will put up a few updates on this bicycle touring blog during that time to keep you all informed. Until laters…
